WebAt Mile 10.3, elevation 6,400 feet, is the junction with the Snowgrass Trail. It's 0.8 miles and 500 feet elevation loss down to the Lily Basin Trail and the Goat Lake Loop Hike. There are nice campsites along this trail, but they're pretty close to the trail. The Snowgrass Flat stream is about 0.3 miles to the south. WebThe trail continues to climb steeply to the junction with the Pacific Crest Trail, ending in the Snowgrass Flats area. Snowgrass Flats is a 10-plus acre subalpine meadow located in a bowl near the headwaters of Snowgrass Creek. The area was originally named for a type of plant that stockmen called snowgrass.

That section is a nice walk through big trees, but minimal views. If you have the time, do the 12-mile Goat Lake loop instead of the 8-mile in-and-out to Snowgrass Flat. It's worth every step. WebSnowgrass Flat is a wide meadow that sits at 6,000 feet with beautiful wildflowers and iconic views of the surrounding mountains. If you’ve seen photos of wildflowers in the Goat Rocks Wilderness they likely came from here.
